There is our paper "High Availability using Reliable Server Pooling", which 
describes the rsplib implementation including an overview over the API. You 
can download it from my RSerPool homepage at 
http://tdrwww.exp-math.uni-essen.de/dreibholz/rserpool/ .

The example programs are also a good information on how to use the API. Since 
the API has been designed to make the RSerPool usage as easy as possible, you 
should have no problems understanding the example programs when you have read 
the paper.
