I have made available a new snapshot of the SCTPLIB developers branch,
which is released as sctplib-1.3.1.
The *only* platform that this release currently compiles and runs on is
However, it *might* compile and even run on BSD based systems and
Solaris (any feedback/patches are warmly welcome).
We are also working on a Windows port for sctpd, which would be
REALLY neat....stay tuned !!!
This was also true for the last release (sctplib-1.3.0), but since it
is *very* important: here is the good news again :-)
o This release contains a server program, which is special: sctpd.
With sctpd we get around the RAW socket problem that occurs in the
current sctplib-1.0.X release tree, if more than one instance of sctplib
programs run on one system.
We now use a central daemon process (sctpd) which is run with root
permissions to open the raw socket, and read and write SCTP/IP packets
from this socket.
All SCTP-user processes run in usermode and connect to the sctpd via a
unix domain socket (created in the tmp directory).
The implementation is absolutely API compatible to sctplib-1.1.X, all
you need to do is start the sctpd process before running sctplib based
See the file README.sctpd that comes with the new snapshot. If you don't,
you will not be able to run any sctplib-based programs any more !!!
As a side note:
Except for the sctpd process, the applications need not have root
privileges any more! It suffices for them to be able to read from and write
to the unix domain socket created in the /tmp directory. More details in the

We have incorporated a good number of bugfixes from the latest SCTP interop
o AddIP now works again with scptd.
o IPv6 link local addresses are again handled and accepted correctly.
o Chunks reporting incorrect length values should be caught and handled
o Unknown chunks are handled correctly now (there was a small chance that
reaction to an unknown chunks was not as required by the specs)
o Path states are quickly validated with heartbeats at the beginning of an
association for up to max_burst (i.e. 4) paths. All other paths are
validated more conservatively.
